Situated at the North East of Madagascar at the head of the Antongil Bay, Maroantsetra can be reached by car from the East coast at the end of one of the most adventurous road of the country. There are so flight from Antananarivo, Toamasina, Sambava, Antsiranana which transit here. This is a place for departure to the Masoala national park. This last, accessible by 2h boat from Maroantsetra, is the biggest rainforest of the island. It gathers rainforest and marine reserve with endemic species.
Mananara is in the middle of that most adventurous offroad track. One day drive from Soanierana Ivongo where the tarmac ends. It is also possible to hire a boat from Toamasina or Sainte Marie island to get to Mananara. Here is a good place to see the famous Aye-Aye, a very fascinating nocturnal lemur species. Mananara is also the departure for the Mananara North Reserve which is home for endemic species of wildlife.
